Objectives

  1. Students will be able to define motivation.
  2. Students will list examples of motivation.
  3. Students will write sentences for motivation.
  4. Students will recognize their motivations to be successful in a school setting.
  5. Students will recognize what motivates their behavior.
  6. Students will become aware what motivates them to complete their assignments in all of their classes.
  7. Students will become aware of what motivates them to come to school daily.

Materials

  1. Pen or pencil
  2. Notebook paper
  3. Rulers or yardstick
  4. Markers, crayons or colored pencils
  5. Construction paper, poster board, tag board or bulletin paper
  6. Magazines or newspaper
  7. Scissors
  8. Glue or paste

Pre-Test

Directions: Use 30 seconds to think about the title of this lesson. (Do not write, just think)
Use five minutes writing your thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences about the word that is in the title of this lesson. GO!

Group Discussion-(10 Examples of 47 Questions)

  1. Have you ever heard the word motivation?
  2. Use the following words in sentences:

    • Motivate
    • Motivated
    • Motivation
  3. Write your definition of motivation.
  4. What can motivate someone to be successful?
  5. Why are some people more motivated than others?
  6. List rewards or incentives that would motivate a student to be successful in a learning environment.
  7. Explain the difference between inspiration and motivation.
  8. List possible consequences that would motivate a student to not use behaviors that would get them in trouble in school.
  9. What would motivate a person to discriminate against someone else?
  10. Write actions that may occur when someone is motivated by anger

Independent Practice-(5 Examples 0f 15 Questions)

Choose any 12 of the 15 questions to write about. You will be given 25 minutes to answer the questions.

  3. When you are motivated, what is your general attitude about completing an assignment?

  1. Ask someone who works every day in your house what motivates him or her to work every day.
  2. Ask any adult in your family what motivates them to not use alcohol or drugs.
  3. Ask any adult in your family to list activities that motivate them to be successful.
  4. Write a paragraph on how our world would be different if everyone was motivated to help each other.
