Objectives

  1. Students will be able to define choice.
  2. Students will be able to recognize the choices they make in areas of their lives.
  3. Students will be able to recognize factors involved in how choices are made.
  4. Students will be able to recognize how they respond to choices they are given.
  5. Students will be able to list choices presented to them on a school campus.

Materials

  1. Pen or pencil
  2. Notebook paper
  3. Rulers or yardstick
  4. Markers, crayons or colored pencils
  5. Construction paper, poster board, tag board or bulletin paper
  6. Magazines or newspaper
  7. Scissors
  8. Glue or paste

Pre-Test

Directions: Use 30 seconds to think about the title of this lesson. (Do not write, just think)
Use five minutes writing your thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences about the word that is in the title of this lesson. GO!

Group Discussion-(7 Examples of 33 Questions)

  1. Have you ever heard of the word choice?
  2. Use the following words in sentences:

    • Choice
    • Choose
    • Chosen
  3. Do you think people are happy with choices given to them? Explain.
  4. At what age do people start making choices for themselves?
  5. List choices people make that can promote them in their careers.
  6. Explain how your attitude can have an effect on choices you make.
  7. Explain how making choices in the present can affect a person’s future.

Independent Practice-(5 Examples 0f 15 Questions)

Choose any 12 of the 15 questions to write about. You will be given 25 minutes to answer the questions.

  1. What choices do you have in completing this assignment?
  2. Name some choices you have as a student on this campus.
  3. List choices that you make throughout a given day.
  4. Are you aware of choices you are given in your life?
  5. What factors do you use to determine if you used a right or wrong choice?

  2. Draw people who are responsible for making choices for you and write statements next to them on some choices they make for you.
  3. Illustrate a classroom, school, or home with people making choices that would help other people.
  4. Design a collage showing material things you would choose to have in your life.
